South Simcoe Agriculture Action Plan

Goals:   

The objective of this initiative is to strengthen the agricultural sector within South Simcoe to enable the sustainability of not only this sector, but to enhance the opportunities of the existing food processors within the region and enable the attraction of additional food processors to complete the cluster.

Events and Projects supporting the identified goal in 2021 include:  the Simcoe County Agricultural Business Retention and Expansion survey; the annual AgKnowledge Forum; support for the farm operator and partnership in various committees supporting the Agricultural sector and food entrepreneurship.

Status:   

The 2024 AgKnowledge Forum, held at the Gibson Centre in Alliston, was a successful event that showcased significant agricultural topics. The theme of the forum was “Emerging Issues in the Ag Sector,” and the discussions at the forum included an in-depth look at storm water management challenges and financial implications for the agricultural sector. The event featured a variety of presentations, including insights into local economic development strategies and labor market research relevant to agriculture, showcasing the region’s dedication to supporting and enhancing the agricultural community.
